Meals on wheels

The Meals on Wheels Service() is for clients over 65 years of age who are unable to prepare a hot meal because of a physical or mental illness or disability. The meals consist of a hot meal and dessert and are delivered to your home Monday to Friday by volunteers. Meals on Wheels is not available long term in all areas, Please contact your GP or District Health Board (DHB) for more information and to see if you are eligible to receive Meals on Wheels. There is a cost for this service.

Home delivered frozen meals

There are a number of companies that provide home delivered chilled or frozen meals. Contact your Needs Assessment and Service Coordination Service or Social Work service for a list of companies in your local area or Google 'frozen meals delivered' for more information. Many restaurants and takeaways will deliver to your home. Check the Yellow pages under 'takeaway foods' or 'restaurants' for more home delivery options.

Shopping

Online shopping

For people who find it difficult to get out to go shopping, online shopping may be an option. Delivery to your door is an extra cost. Several major supermarkets offer online shopping, check with your local supermarket to see if they provide this service. Some supermarkets will complete your shopping and have it ready for pick up at the counter at a pre-arranged time. There is a minimal cost for this.

Check with local homecare agencies if they are able to provide home delivery shopping services.
